Why would anyone EVER want to paint an instrument, when there is wood like this!?!?
Spalt wood is actually the product of a dead or decaying tree.
The dark lines are created by fungal invasion.
Each piece of Spalted maple is quite unique.
Who knows, this 5A beautiful top could end up on your very own TK!
The next piece down, is a Maple lace burl...
Burl is pretty much a tumor (or cancer) that has formed on a tree.
Often it has a warmer tone then most maples.
And because it has so many open pores within the grains it can be very resonant!

Please Note:
Many of the wood samples seen within this gallery have already been processed into instrument parts (bodies, necks etc. )
Therefore, individual selections are unable to be chosen from the wood photos seen within these pages...
However, if you have a certain piece that you really like, I will do my best to find a similar piece for you, from my constantly changing selection of woods.
